Course Goals:      

This course is intended to instruct the student through self-paced study of techniques of athletic taping and bracing for the upper and lower extremity

 Student Objectives:               

At the end of this course the student will be able to:

1.  Identify differences between elastic tape, non elastic tape, underwrap and elastic wraps and the advantages and disadvantages of each.

2.  Identify 3 criteria for returning an injured athlete to competition

3. Identify an injury assessment protocol

4. Identify principles of applying and removing tape from a patient

5. Identify the most common type of ankle sprain and taping procedures that can be used to stabilize ankle sprains

6. Identify taping procedures for Achilles tendon strains and tendonitis

7. Identify taping procedures for foot arch strains and plantar fasciitis

8.  Identify taping procedures for foot arch support

9.  Identify taping procedures for great toe sprains and heel contusions

10.  Identify the 3 anatomical structures that form the “terrible triad” when injured.

11.  Identify taping procedures for medial and lateral collateral ligament support

12.  Identify taping procedures for anterior and posterior cruciate ligament support

13.  Identify taping procedures to stabilize knee hyperextension

14.  Identify taping procedures for patellofemoral support and correction

15.  Identify taping procedures for hip strains

16.  Identify techniques to determine between adductor and hip flexor strains

17.  Identify taping procedures for hamstring strains

18. Identify 3 criteria for returning an injured athlete to competition

19.  Identify methods of injury that can result in an acromioclavicular joint sprain

20.  Identify taping techniques for a shoulder sprain or shoulder instability

21.  Identify taping techniques for elbow strains and collateral ligament instability

22.  Identify taping techniques for elbow hyperextension prevention
