Professional Ethics: A Guide for Rehabilitation Professionals: Module 3 (Texas PT Credit)

Course Goals:      

This course is intended to instruct the student through self-paced study in the ethical standards applying to rehabilitation professionals including their respective Codes of Ethics and Guides for Professional Conduct.

 Student Objectives:               

At the end of this course the student will be able to:

1. Identify the components of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990

2. Identify 7 “reasonable accommodations” defined by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission

3. Identify the components of the Civil Rights Acts of 1964 and 1991

4. Identify the components of the Family and Medial Leave Act of 1993

5. Identify components of sexual harassment and misconduct

6. Identify 4 principle circumstances that may justify the writing of a DNR order

7. Identify the components of the Patient Self-Determination Act of 1990

8. Differentiate the difference between a living will and a durable power of attorney for health care decisions

9. Identify components of the Physical Therapy and Physical Therapy Assistant code of ethics

10. Identify components of the Physical Therapy and Physical Therapy Assistant Guide for Professional Conduct.

11. Identify components of the Texas Physical Therapy Practice Act

12. Identify components of the Texas Board of Physical Therapy Examiners Physical Therapy Rules
