Identify the social, economic, and ethical problems of an aging US population. 2. Identify factors that govern biological aging: heredity, environment, chronic disease. 3. Identify the effects of aging on major tissues, organs, and systems. 4. Identify how the physiological changes associated with aging affect the needs for specific nutrients; calories, carbohydrates, protein, fat, fiber, vitamins, minerals, and fluids. 5. Identify the dietary modifications indicated for individuals suffering from or at risk for obesity, cardiovascular disease, and/or hypertension. 6. Identify why cholesterol and sodium limitation are not always appropriate. 7. List nutritional effects of cancer and common cancer therapies. 8. Identify the etiology, nutritional ramifications and treatment of renal disease, osteoporosis, diabetes mellitus and COPD 9.
