Course Goals and Objectives:
This course is intended to facilitate a review as well as a learning experience for the therapist, athletic trainer, and other related professionals through a self-paced study of the clinical anatomy and basic biomechanics of the lumbar spine.
At the end of this course the student will be able to:
1. Identify clinically relevant bony regions of the lumbar vertebrae.
2. Describe and classify ligaments and musculature of the lumbar spine.
3. Describe the blood supply of the lumbar spine.
4. Thoroughly understand the anatomical relationship between key structures of the nervous system and the lumbar spine.
5. Understand the anatomy and biomechanics of the intervertebral disc and the changes the disc must undergo throughout movement of the lumbar spine.
6. Understand the biomechanics of the intervertebral joint complex and how each segment contributes to the movement of the entire lumbar spine.
